Official format

TCF Canada speaking lasts 12 minutes, including two minutes of preparation. Task 1 is a two-minute guided interview. Task 2 lasts five minutes thirty, including preparation, leaving three minutes thirty for interaction. Task 3 lasts four minutes thirty.

This timing reference is for TCF Canada. Consult the relevant official page for another TCF version and its required components.

Practise three different jobs

For Task 1, answer what was asked and add a useful detail. For Task 2, ask for information and follow up on an answer. For Task 3, develop a position with reasons and examples. A prepared speech is not a substitute for all three.

Reusable phrases are useful when you can change the content. Practise the same experience through different questions rather than repeating an identical introduction.

Try one short interview, one service enquiry and one opinion response. Note whether you answered the prompt, responded to your partner and supported your reasons. Choose only one weakness for your next attempt.

For example, replace “I like sport” with a specific activity, frequency and reason. Details create natural follow-up questions without requiring elaborate vocabulary.

Choose a weak task, speak once, improve one point and change the topic. This is a platform practice method, not an official scoring checklist.

  • Interview: describe an interest and explain when and why you started.
  • Interaction: ask about a course and follow up on one condition.
  • Opinion: explain whether weekends should be kept free, using an example.
