Official structure

TCF Canada writing has three tasks in 60 minutes: a message of 60–120 words; an account or narrative with purpose-related comments, 120–150 words; and a comparison of two supplied viewpoints with your opinion, 120–180 words.

These are overall ranges. Follow the actual prompt for audience, format and any more specific requirements. French word counts are not character counts.

Platform practice method

Plan four things

Identify the writer, audience, required information and intended result. Then choose register, tenses and the ending.

An invitation to a friend differs from one to an organisation. A narrative may also need comments that address the prompt’s purpose.

Original practice example

Original short-message exercise

Invite a classmate to a weekend reading group. List the activity, time, place and requested reply before writing your own message. Do not replace the task with an AI-written answer.

“Est-ce que tu serais disponible samedi après-midi ?” asks about availability; it does not supply the remaining required details.

Platform practice method

Check before submitting

Review the word count, missing information, register, timeline, agreement and links between ideas. In Task 3, distinguish document viewpoints from your own and do not invent what the source documents say.

The writing workspace currently serves authorised individual use only. Reading this guide or receiving an oral-testing invitation does not unlock private writing records.
